Mona Brorsson is on everyone’s lips right now.
The Swede can look back on a very impressive week.
And she has been showered with love from the people ever since.
When neither Hanna Öberg or Elvira Öberg managed to live up to expectations, instead the most unexpected name stepped forward and delivered a smash hit. Last Friday shocked Mona Brorsson all by securing the second career podium ever at the World Cup.
Brorsson’s success
Second place in the sprint in Ruhpolding was as sensational as it was well-deserved for 33-year-old Brorsson, who has had to fight for success for so long. She has always been the perfect teammate who never complains and always supports everyone else.

Now she finally got to stand at the front and receive all the tributes and the love of the Swedish people. Mona Brorsson will forever remember the course of her life.
– I consider this podium place higher than the first. It really was one of those days when everything was right. It was really super cool to get it done, she tells Aftonbladet ahead of this week’s new competitions in Antholz, Italy.
Mona’s surprise
Sweden has been spoiled with podium places and medals for the Öberg sisters as well Sebastian Samuelsson and Martin Ponsiluoma recent years. When it was now a doldis who stepped out of the shadows, the reactions were even greater and she has been showered with congratulations for the past week.
– I posted a post on Instagram and I think it was up to 1,200 comments…, she says in the interview and is taken aback by all the commotion.
– Yes, you are a little surprised that so many people care. You think that people should be fed up with the success of Hanna, Elvira and “Sebbe”, but then along comes a slightly unsuspecting “dark horse” like me. I have noticed that it has really engaged people at home in the cottages. There are so many people who have heard from social media, emails, text messages… carrier pigeons and smoke signals, I thought I would say. It’s super fun and a little unusual, but something you only get to enjoy when it happens.

There is also a reason why all Swedes love Mona in particular and always support her, even when things are bad. She is humility itself and the perfect teammate to have in a national team.
– I have no idea why, haha. But that’s probably because I always try to be honest. I’ve succeeded at things in my career, but I’ve also failed – hard. But I’ve always tried to own it and stand for my actions. Even when I have failed, I have always tried and done my best and I think that resonates with the people. And many have followed me for many, many years and seen that I have been close, so people have probably treated me to success. It really warms, says Brorsson to the evening newspaper.
