Stina Nilsson is no longer a biathlon.
Now Mona Brorsson gives her honest view of the friend’s decision to change sports.
-All the people who follow their dream I have so much respect for, says the SVT expert to the Sports Bible.
It was after last season that Stina Nilsson31, announced that she made her biathlete after four years. In the same vein, she told me she would invest in long -distance races instead. It has proven to be a good choice of the former Olympic gold medalist in cross-country skiing.
Stina’s message surprised Mona
Mona Brorsson34, was a national team colleague with Stina for a couple of years and followed her development in the biathlon closely. In an interview with the Sports Bible, she says she was not expecting Stina’s choice to change sports to come now.
– Very surprised by the timing, but not surprised by the decision really because she has said that she wanted to make long races sometime in the future, so that step I was not surprised. She has always been cruel about striking when we have also driven. So I’m not surprised that she is as good as she is. But I am surprised that she is so good already now, she says.

It is, as I said, the time of the decision that surprised Mona rather than the decision itself. She expected Nilsson at least to run the Olympics in 2026 before she switched to long -running.
– I thought she would run over the Olympics in Cortina, run biathlon for a little while. But yes, I know myself … If you feel ready, you are done.
Many may question Stina Nilsson’s choice to leave biathlon considering that just Mona Brorsson stopped and that Linn Gestblom (Fd Persson) Missed this whole season due to injury. In other words, it had opened so that Stina could play a clearer role in the national team.
– It’s not about it. She could stay. You should do what you think is fun and what you believe in. I have so much respect for that, I do not think she has made a mistake, but she has done just right. All the people who follow their dream I have so much respect for. That’s exactly what you want, says Brorsson and continues:

– It’s not about success or not succeeding. I think it’s sad that there are so many who judge her based on it. “Why did she change (from cross -country skiing)? It went so well. Why is she doing that way? ”. It is not about it but is about her being able to do what she thinks is the most fun and what she thinks develops her most.
Stina Nilsson’s merits as a biathlon
The SVT expert is impressed by Stina’s ability to adapt so quickly to long-distance races and that type of training. She thinks it was just the right choice of the 31-year-old to invest in what she has a fallacy for.
– For her, it’s just about competing and gain more experience and develop these techniques in technology. Because it is easy to say striking, but it is clear that there are different stact techniques as well, so it is just about gaining more experience and continuing to work on the specialization, she says about Stina’s future in the new sport.
She also hopes that Stina Nilsson does not know herself that it was a mistake to invest in biathlon for four years.
– I hope she doesn’t regret anything. I can’t know of course, but I really hope she is proud that she has tried. That she is proud of everything she achieved, that she went to the Olympics in biathlon, that she was allowed to stand on the podium and that she is still as motivated and forward in her new sport, says Mona.
What do you think of Stina Nilsson’s career and her choice to switch from biathlon to long run for this season? Feel free to leave a comment!
