Moments that marked the G20 Summit Tensions between Xi Jinping

The tension between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau marked the G20 Summit in Indonesia’s Bali Island. Xi Jinping accused Trudeau of leaking the meeting they held within the framework of the summit to the press. Tensions between China and Canada started with the arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou in Canada.

“EVERYTHING WE TALKED WAS LEAKED TO THE PRESS”

Chinese President Xi Jinping reacted to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who met at the G20 Summit in Indonesia’s Bali Island. The tension between the two leaders was reflected on the cameras during their speeches at the closing of the summit. Xi Jinping accused Trudeau of leaking the meeting they held within the framework of the summit to the press. Speaking in Chinese and reacting to the leak of their summit meeting the previous day through a translator, Jinping said, “Everything we talked about was leaked to the press, and I don’t think it’s appropriate.” To Jinping’s reaction, Trudeau responded by saying, “We believe in and will continue to have free, open and sincere dialogue in Canada. We will continue to work together constructively, but there will be things we disagree with.”

“LET’S TALK ABOUT THE CONDITIONS”

It was seen that Jinping, who interrupted Trudeau, used the words “Let’s talk about the conditions first”, and then after shaking his counterpart’s hand, the two leaders went in different directions.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Tensions between China and Canada started with the arrest of Huawei manager Meng Wanzhou in Canada, and the tension between the two countries increased when China arrested 2 Canadians for alleged spying 9 days after the incident.
