Refugee Work Netherlands recognizes the problems in Veenendaal. There are no known complaints about the reception location there, but many other emergency locations have the same problems. “There are now more crisis emergency reception locations. These are temporary locations for a short stay. But because there is a shortage, people stay longer while the facilities are not up to par. There are many locations, for example in sports halls, where people only have a curtain – and therefore little privacy. Everyone is very close together. Nor can they cook for themselves. That may not sound very important, but it is about your own autonomy, which makes you very dependent. Because people have been in those crisis emergency shelters for so long, the situation is becoming increasingly hopeless.”
