Residents of Moldova go to the polls for the second time in the presidential election on Sunday. The result could be decisive for what the country’s future in the EU looks like.

Two weeks ago, Moldovans voted by a narrow majority for membership in the EU. Parallel to the referendum, a presidential election was held, where pro-European Maia Sandu received the most support with 42 percent.

Since Sandu did not get over 50 percent, however, a second round of elections was required against the pro-Russian candidate Aleksandr Stoianoglo, who received about 26 percent of the vote.
