Mohamed runs into acquaintances every now and then when he walks through the neighborhood with writer Hugo Verkley. It is a duo that you would not necessarily expect together in Overvecht: the tall Hugo, blond medium-length wavy hair, neat dark blue jacket with ditto jeans and shoes underneath. And then Mohamed, dressed completely in black: hoodie, sweatpants, sneakers and bomber jacket. One grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood in Bodegraven – “the worst mischief I did was ringing a bell and then hiding” – the other learned the rules of the street at an early age.
