Mohamed and Layth brutally murdered – 18 people are charged

At the end of July 2023, 14-year-old Mohamed disappeared from his HVB home in Nyköping, while 14-year-old Layth disappeared from the family home he was placed on.

Four days later, Mohamed was found dead in Nynäshamn municipality. Passersby had then found his body in a forest area. A week later, Layth’s body was found in an outdoor area in Upplands-Bro, northwest of Stockholm.

Raises charges against 18 people

Today, charges were brought against 18 people for involvement in the murder, the abduction of the boys and preparation for murder in another case. The evidence has also been submitted against three people, as they are under 15 and cannot be prosecuted. Eight of the suspects are detained.

“It has been a very extensive investigation that resulted in the fact that we brought an action against a total of 21 people,” says Hanna Cardell, senior prosecutor and preliminary investigator.

Prosecutor: Connected to Foxtrot

The crime classifications are murder, instigation for murder, assisting in murder, human trafficking, gross offense, preparation for murder, murder and assisting in preparation for murder.

The prosecutor states that the investigation consists of three parts, one about the murders and one about human trafficking. The third parts are about preparation for murder of defendants other than Mohamed and Layth, who became known during the investigation. It will be about murder plans planned by the Foxtrot network against the Dalen Network.

– We believe that all three parts concern crime that can be linked to the criminal network Foxtrot, says Hanna Cardell.

The motive: was blamed for having disposed of weapons

Prosecutors believe that during the summer of 2023, a murder was prepared within the Foxtrot network against the Dalen Network. A so -called printing apartment, where providers would be before and after the murder had been rented in Enskede.

– The investigation has shown that both Mohamed and Layth were involved in this murder preparation that was going on. Exactly in what way has not been the focus of this investigation. But it is important why they are killed, says Sara Stols, senior prosecutor.

Several younger people had been hired for the assignment, including to carry out the murder, scout and store weapons and scooters.

– We believe that the investigation shows that the motive for the murder lies in the fact that people with a network Foxtrot believe that Mohamed and Layth have taken guns that belong to the network, says Sara Stols.

When Mohamed was in the apartment in Enskede, he was accused of getting rid of two guns. He was later detained in the apartment – Layth is also accused of being involved in the disappearance of weapons.

At the same time, prosecutors point out that the investigation has not been able to determine whether the weapons have really disappeared. One of the weapons must later have been seized in another investigation and was found in Bromma.

Boy alerted the police – later was suspected

At about the same time as Mohamed was found dead in Nynäshamn, the police were contacted by a then 15-year-old boy. He and his friends had been exposed to serious death threats.

– The people who threatened them had also sent pictures of Mohamed and Layth where they looked dead, says Hanna Cardell.

The boy who heard from the police and his friends later came to be suspected of involvement in Layth’s disappearance and charged, among other things, for assisting in murder. In some of the illegal threats, they are simultaneously plaintiffs, where a 32-year-old man is suspected.

32-year-old was arrested at Arlanda-charged in all parts

In February last year, the 32-year-old man was arrested at Arlanda Airport. The man is linked to the Foxtrot network and was internationally wanted. He volunteered to come back to Sweden.

– A person is charged with involvement in all three parts of the investigation. That person is a 32-year-old man who himself surrendered to the police at Arlanda, says Hanna Cardell.

The man is charged, among other things, for the involvement of minors in criminal activities.

-We say that the 32-year-old has involved several others on assignments and several of those hired have been young people under 18, says Sara Stols.

Layth’s and Mohamed relatives have given their approval for the publication of names and pictures.
