Mods for Final Fantasy XIV allow players to better stalk their victims

Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida recently contacted Final Fantasy XIV’s community in order to comment on unauthorized modifications that make stalking easier.

What kind of mods are these? In his statement on forum.square-enix.com, Naoki Yoshida, who is also known as a Yoshi-P in the community, confirms that there are tools from third-party providers for Final Fantasy XIV through which you can get character information that can be obtained during the normal game course are actually not displayed.

Specifically, the tools use the internal account IDs of a character to get information about all characters of the same account. Ironically, the new Blacklisting system, which was introduced with Dawntrail, makes it possible, since this system exchanges the character ID for an account page ID, then determine the associated characters via the tools. A dream for every online talker.

Dawntrail is the current expansion of Final Fantasy XIV:

Developers think about legal steps

What do the developers do? The chief developer emphasizes that one is aware of the situation and the concerns expressed by the community. One also strives to ensure a safe environment for all players. So think about taking legal action against everyone who uses such a tool.

Yoshi-P also makes it clear once again that in Final Fantasy XIV-unlike, for example in WoW or ESO-the use of third-party modifications is generally prohibited. Furthermore, he asks all members of the Eorzea community to refrain from sharing details on such unauthorized programs-for example in terms of installation.

Last but not least, Yoshida calms down that you could not read out information about addresses or means of payment via these tools.
