Modo’s prestige signing for the SHL comeback – the Swedish Stanley Cup champion is ready for the newcomer

Modo is back in the SHL again!
And now they have landed a real prestige acquisition.
When a Swedish Stanley Cup champion returns to Swedish hockey again.

It became extremely dramatic and reached all the way to a “Game 7” match, but in the end Modo managed to win the Allsvenskan final against Djurgården and take the step up to the SHL again. Now the work has already begun to establish itself in the top flight.

Modo is recruiting

Just five days after it went live, Modo has already made two interesting new acquisitions. First was the forward Erik Walli Walterholm from Timrå completely finished on Wednesday and now another signing is in port.

This Friday, the SHL newcomer announces that they have agreed on the prestige signing David Rundblad. The 32-year-old mostly comes from Finnish Kärpät but has a very solid track record with the Stanley Cup title standing out the most.

NHL credentials

Now he will help Modo stay in the SHL after seven long years in the HockeyAllsvenskan.
– We finished with him already in January-February on the condition that we would move up to the SHL. It shows will and character that he was prepared to wait until the end of April to know where he will play next season, he was also there for the decisive game. Adam Pettersson, who he played with Skellefteå, has had a big part in the transition, says the sports director Henrik Gradin in a press release.

David Rundblad emerged as a Swedish super talent over a decade ago and has been around quite a bit playing in the NHL, KHL, SHL, Swiss NLA and Tre Kronor. It was a total of five seasons and 121 games in the NHL for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup trophy was lifted in 2015.

The last time he played SHL hockey was for Skellefteå AIK, when he won the backers’ scoring with 50 points in 2010/11. Now awaits a fond return to Swedish hockey again and new confidence in the SHL.
