Modo’s disappointment: “Fails in our game”

For seven difficult years, Modo has plowed through the hockey Allsvenskan.

With two SM golds and 40 seasons in the SHL/elite series, a whole city wants to see its classic team back there.

But the Wednesday evening in Hägglund’s arena in front of 7,215 spectators ended in depression.

It didn’t help that former superstars like Peter Forsberg and Markus Näslund were in the stands cheering on their Modo.

— I think we fail in our game, we offer five goals. It doesn’t hold up against a team like Djurgården, says Wahlberg.

TT: Why does that happen?

— I don’t know if it’s tension. It’s hard to say here and now. We have to analyze the match and see what we can do better on Friday, says Modobacken.

Even though most things went wrong on Wednesday night, it’s still advantage Modo.

With a 3–2 lead in games, the team has another chance to fix the SHL promotion on Friday night in Stockholm.

Then Emil Wahlberg wants to see his team act like the last eleven minutes or so of the match.

Modo picked up 2–5 to 4–5, but then conceded a goal into an empty net when goalkeeper Tex Williamsson – who replaced Kristers Gudlevskis at 2–5 – was picked off.

— It’s probably more in the direction we want to play and the way our game is. We need to continue on the beaten track, he says.
