The US pharmaceutical company Moderna is suing two of its competitors for patent infringement of the corona vaccine.

The American Pfizer and the German Biontech pharmaceutical company receive the challenge.

According to Moderna, competitors have used the mRNA vaccine technology patents registered by Moderna without permission. Moderna has registered the patents in question between 2010 and 2016.

– We present the challenge to protect the ground-breaking mNRA technology we have developed, Director of Moderna Stephane Bancel says.

According to him, Moderna has invested billions of dollars in the development of the vaccine.

According to Moderna, the purpose of the lawsuit is not to prevent people from getting corona vaccines.

Pfizer: “We will defend ourselves with vigor”

Both Pfizer and its German partner Biontech deny any patent infringement.

– We have not yet thoroughly investigated the challenge, but we are surprised that we have to litigate this issue, Pfizer’s press release says.

According to Pfizer, its and Biontech’s corona vaccines are the result of its own development work.

– We are convinced of the ownership right to our own vaccine and we will vigorously defend it against accusations. Pfizer’s press release assures.

Moderna on the one hand and Pfizer and Biontech on the other were the first to develop a vaccine against the coronavirus.

Moderna plans to challenge rival companies in both Massachusetts, USA and Düsseldorf, Germany.
