Players who own the PlayStation 4 version of the game but are trying to play it on a PlayStation 5 console will receive the message “You have the Cross-Gen playback disc version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II for PlayStation 4, which requires a playback disc to play the game on your PlayStation 5 console. Please call of Duty “: Insert a playback disc for Modern Warfare II and try again.” This stems from Activision’s strategy of organizing the game as an integrated “Call of Duty launcher” across all platforms.
A user named Juhhelihha on Reddit seems to have found a solution to this problem. You can solve it by following the steps below:
- Close the game completely and restart it.
- In the start menu, instead of pressing “Modern Warfare 3 Campaign”, go to the settings and notifications tab.
- In this tab, you’ll find an error report labeled “Modern Warfare 3 Early Access.” Click on the “play” option shown here.
- If it appears “locked”, clicking this option may unlock it for some users.
