(Finance) – The positive trend continues request Of mobility for almost all modes of transport which, in the fourth quarter of 2023, recorded growth compared to the same period of 2022, with increases of between 1% and 15%. Comparing the final data for 2023 with those of previous years, it emerges that to date almost all transport modes have almost recovered the levels of pre-pandemic demandwith peaks of +23% for passengers on ferries (January-October period) and +10% of transport railway IC/ICN. The only exceptions are passengers on board local public transportwhich still show a deficit of between 13% and 20%.

This is what emerges from the quarterly report ofObservatory on mobility trends prepared by the Technical Mission Structure (STM) of Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT), released today. The survey reports quarterly analyzes on mobility trends, carried out in order to monitor the evolution and needs of the transport and logistics sector, also to better plan and schedule investments in transport infrastructure and services. The analyzes are based on data made available by national multimodal operators and the General Directorates of MIT.

With reference to mobility habits of Italians, it is noted that, in December 2023, the Italians who moved every day were around 36.5 million (over 72% of the reference population), each of whom made on average around 2.5 trips per day for a total of almost 92 million trips, equal to approximately 1.7 billion trips*km/day. On weekdays people travel slightly more than on holidays (+11%) and with a greater number of average trips per capita (+4%).

Most of the travel it is local in nature, in fact the percentage of average users/day who move within 50 km is approximately 75% of the total. However, these data hide heterogeneity across the national territory. For example, the percentage of mobile population varies from values ​​close to 70% in Liguria, Puglia, Sicily and Sardinia to values ​​around 80% in Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo and Molise and equal to around 75% for the other Regions.
