Moa Hjelmer ends her career Sports in a nutshell

The 34-year-old Swedish track and field athlete has an 18-year national team career behind him.

Swedish track and field athlete Moa Hjelmer retire after this season. Hjelmer told about it on his Instagram account.

– It is incredibly emotional to write this, that I am ending what has been my whole life until now. Athletics and running are my passions and always will be, but after the summer they can be in some other way than as an active athlete, the 34-year-old sprinter writes in his publication.

Hjelmer has an 18-year national team career behind him.

In 2012, he celebrated the 400-meter EC gold in Helsinki. The championship came with a time of 51.13, which is still the Swedish record. In addition, he has the EC bronze from 2013 in the indoor championships from the same distance.

Hjelmer told the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation for SVTthat although the EC medals are high in his merits, in his heart he carries the victories of the Finland-Sweden national matches.

According to SVT, after his sports career, Hjelmer will continue his full-time job as a social worker.

The runner starts his farewell tour this weekend in Uddevalla from the Swedish championships.
