MMORPG player seriously asks if he’s cheating by putting a severed toe on the keyboard

RuneScape players are considered tough when it comes to challenges. These can take place both in MMORPGs and in real life, for example when gaming for a long time at a time. However, a player overdoes it and wants to know from the developers whether a severed body part can continue playing alone or whether this is considered cheating.

What kind of crazy request is this? The user Planting_shade tells on Reddit that he had a diabetic foot and therefore had to have his toe amputated. He was allowed to take this home with him and has now been mummified so that he can use it freely.

Since the toe was once part of his body, he now wants to know whether he can place it on the space bar to automatically collect salt.

Since it’s technically a part of my body, I’m seriously wondering if I can use it for six hours of the most beautiful spacebar-holding mining experience. It’s my toe. It’s heavy enough to press the space bar on my laptop. Personally, I think that’s a good argument. I certainly sleep better at night knowing my toe is working hard for me in the salt mines.

What does he mean by the salt mines? A patch in July 2023 introduced salt camps, where all you have to do is press the space bar and earn around 10,000 mining XP per hour. However, after 6 hours the game automatically kicks you out of the game for inactivity.

These 6 hours could be with the method Planting_shade can of course be processed easily without sitting at the PC.

The thread about it exploded immediately, received over 2,500 upvotes and even the developers commented on it.

Developers are nerfing the whole event – but a real answer is still pending

What do the developers say? JagexLight spoke up in the thread itself. He wished the user well and asked him to take care of his remaining fingers and toes. These are “very important.”

There should be an answer to the player’s question in a blog post on Wednesday. However, it was then announced that the method itself would be nerfed (via RuneScape):

As of today’s update, if you mine them for more than five minutes at a time, the Duke’s Salt Deposits will cause fatigue and you will need to take a break.

However, the fundamental question – whether a severed toe can be used for AFK play – remains unanswered.

The terms and conditions only state that no special software, hardware or third-party methods may be used. A former body part should actually not belong to any of these three areas.

How do you see this request? In your opinion, would it be allowed to use the toe for AFK tricks?

Recently there were discussions at RuneScape about the new Battle Pass, in which some saw Pay2Win. After many negative reviews, the developers gave in:
