MMORPG in post-apocalypse was supposed to launch on Steam now, but shows signs of life after a long radio silence

Ashfall will be a Fallout-like MMORPG shooter with a post-apocalyptic setting and is expected to be released on Steam in 2024. But there has been no sign of life from the developers for a long time.

What was the latest information on Ashfall? In July 2023, MeinMMO reported on the upcoming beta of NetEase’s new MMORPG. A two-week closed beta followed on August 3, 2023, for which players could register.

After these two weeks, the developers have obviously taken the community’s feedback to heart – perhaps a little too much, because there were hardly any further reports after that. The last sign of life on social media was via x.com. There, those responsible wrote that the next test will take place in December 2023 or January 2024.

Since then, there has been absolute radio silence. Even on Discord in December 2023, there was only a Christmas greeting and the information that they are continuing to work on the game and optimizing it based on player feedback (via mmorpg.org.pl).

Steam still shows that the planned release date is in the third quarter of 2024. This would mean that the game would have to be released by the end of September. However, this seems quite unlikely considering that there is currently no further information on the planned release.

A sign of life from Ashfall

What’s new in Ashfall? Unfortunately, there is no global news regarding further testing or whether the release date can really be met. However, news has been reported in China. The publisher NetEase is headquartered in Hangzhou, a city in eastern China.

In China, the servers are already available for pre-download. Since September 12, 2024, it has been possible to download the game and register for the test qualification. The official launch of Ashfall is planned for November 24, 2024, but of course only in China. Unfortunately, there is currently no further information about a global release date.

What kind of game is Ashfall?

What does Ashfall offer you? Ashfall is an MMORPG that is not a classic fantasy game, but throws you into third-person shooter battles. The setting is set in a post-apocalyptic future that, in the first trailers, is somewhat reminiscent of Fallout.

All kinds of monsters await you in the game, such as giant worms or mutated animals. It will also offer a dynamic weather system, various random events, living NPCs, different firearms and a fast combat system. Ashfall will be available on PC and mobile and will allow crossplay. This means that you can also play the game across platforms.

Fun Fact: Oscar winner Hans Zimmer (Dune, Inception, Titanic) is providing the music for the MMORPG together with Steven Mazzaro (Iron Man, The Dark Knight Rises, The Lone Ranger).
