Even great ideas get lost in the cinema, especially during Corona times. This is what happened to Reminiscence. The sci-fi film with Hugh Jackman (X-Men) mixes Blade Runner images and Chinatown moods into a unique whole. It is currently experiencing a renaissance in the Netflix charts.

Reminiscence is set in the US metropolis of Miami, which has been flooded by rising sea levels in the near future. The residents of the city wallow in artificially reproduced memories, in order not to have to face the bitter present. Veteran Nick Bannister (Jackman) benefits from the deal. But soon he has to rethink his attitude.

Reminiscence combines the sci-fi look of Blade Runner with the film noir darkness of Chinatown, which obviously excites many Netflix fans. Unfortunately, when the film was released, the reaction was different.

The film turned out to be a huge flop at the box office (via The Numbers ), which even the simultaneous release on HBO Max couldn’t justify. All the better that it has found a new audience on Netflix.
