One of the flagship measures of Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his government, it is the drop in the prices of certain basic necessities, such as bread, oil or sugar. According to our correspondent in Dakar, Juliette Duboismany Senegalese demanded rapid action on the cost of living and therefore welcomed the measure put in place in June.

Another major project: good governance and the fight against corruption. The new president of the Senegal has launched numerous audits since April, for example in the oil, gas and mining sectors. Other audits have also been launched in the public accounts of ministries, or on coastal constructions. Construction sites concerned on the maritime public domain have been at a standstill since May, to check that they are in order. But the conclusions of these audits are not yet known.

In the area of justice, which Bassirou Diomaye Faye had promised to reform in depth, the government also acted quickly, by organizing a conference which produced around ten recommendations.

Some construction sites have been delayed

On the other hand, several files are dragging on. A bill on the protection of whistleblowers was to be finalized before May 15. It has not yet been presented to the National Assembly. Another pending project is the creation of a commission to compensate victims of the demonstrations between 2021 and 2024.

Finally, some nominations without calls for applications, far from the president’s promises, have caused some teeth to grind. Several dozen management positions in the administration are affected.

How does the population judge these first 100 days?

On some walls in the Ouakam district of Dakar, we can still see the yellowed campaign posters. Diomaye President ” with the face of the head of state, reports our correspondent, Gwendal Lavina. Just a stone’s throw away, Wilfried, very satisfied with the first 100 days that have passed. There are the measures taken by the authorities, but it is something else that convinces him on a daily basis that he made the right choice: ” I see the enthusiasm of the youth in relation to the past government. So, you feel that people are ready to support him to go with him for the change of this country. Even if it is not quickly, but we feel that there is courage and motivation. »

Abdoulaye has not noticed any real changes so far. But he is willing to give the authorities more time: ” For me, straightening out a country is not done in 100 days. It is a long-term, long-term job. The Senegalese are waiting, we pray that they do not disappoint us. »

In her beauty products store, this shopkeeper believes she has waited long enough, in vain. So Bassirou Diomaye Faye or someone else, it doesn’t change anything. You can’t always rely on the government. You also have to try to manage, to provide for your own needs. You can’t expect the government to handle everything for you. »

In his inauguration speech, the Head of State spoke of a deep desire for systemic change expressed at the ballot box. The population is ready to give him time to make it happen.

“For me, getting a country back on its feet doesn’t happen in 100 days, it’s a long-term process.”
