This is the most effective recipe against rust on the barbecue grill.
Barbecue season is in full swing! Is your barbecue grill starting to age and traces of rust are appearing? Before changing it, try this tip that makes rust disappear without having to scrub. For this, two cheap and natural ingredients are enough.
But before trying to remove rust from the grill, you need to know its material. This step is really important, because if your grill is made of enameled steel or enameled cast iron, you won’t be able to do anything except change it. Otherwise, you run the risk of enamel residue ending up in your food, and therefore in your body.
If, on the contrary, your grill is made of stainless steel, cast iron or chrome steel, you can try to save it by removing the encrusted rust. To do this, all you need to do is get these two ingredients: baking soda and white vinegar. Baking soda, with its alkaline pH, is a mild abrasive that helps loosen rust particles. White vinegar, on the other hand, is acidic and reacts with rust (iron oxide) to dissolve it. Together they form a powerful combination that effectively removes rust without requiring physical effort.
How to proceed ? Remove the grill and removable parts from the barbecue. Wipe away all surface dirt and debris with a dry cloth or brush. Then generously sprinkle baking soda over any rusty areas. Make sure the rust is well covered. Slowly pour white vinegar over the baking soda. You will notice an immediate reaction: a foam forms. This chemical reaction between acid (vinegar) and alkaline (baking soda) begins to dissolve the rust.
Leave the mixture to work for about 15 to 30 minutes. During this time, the foam will continue to work on the rust, gradually breaking it down. Use a garden hose, basin or bucket of water to rinse away the baking soda and vinegar residue. If necessary, use a soft brush to remove any remaining pieces of rust. Dry the barbecue thoroughly with a clean cloth to prevent further rust formation. If your grill still shows traces of rust after this operation, you will no longer have a choice, changing the grill will be necessary.
