Prosecutors are investigating the death as a homicide linked to his journalistic work.
Luis Martín Sánchez Iñiguez, 59, was at home last Wednesday night when he last spoke to his wife on the phone. On Friday, she reported him missing, suspecting that he had been kidnapped. His computer, mobile phone and a hard drive were missing.
His body showed signs of violence and a message was said to have been left at the scene, according to the local prosecutor’s office.
Mexico is considered one of the world’s most dangerous countries for journalists. Since 2000, more than 150 journalists have been murdered in the country, according to Reporters Without Borders.
