A man was sent home from the emergency room when the staff mistook his heart attack for muscle pain, reports Falu-Kuriren. The following day he had to be taken back to the hospital in an ambulance.

The man, who is in his 80s, had had pain in his left arm for several days, but an EKG taken at the hospital was deemed normal. It was only the following day, when the pain became more palpable for the man, that the heart attack was discovered.

After the care miss, Region Dalarna has reported the incident according to lex Maria and is now changing its routines.

“All patients with diffuse problems that could come from the heart are now taken care of by staff with good knowledge of heart disease,” says Anna Svärd in a press release from the region.
