[Mis à jour le 13 décembre 2021 à 10h02] Harnaaz Sandhu, representative of India, was crowned Miss Universe 2022 this Sunday, December 12, 2021. The ceremony took place in Eilat, Israel, on the night from Sunday to Monday. The contest was marked by controversy this year, with calls for a boycott in defense of the Palestinian cause. Miss Paraguay qualified first runner-up in Miss Universe 2022, and Miss South Africa second runner-up.
France was represented in the Miss Universe pageant by Clémence Botino, who could have seen her participation compromised after having tested positive for the coronavirus. Fortunately, miss France 2020 was able to participate in the beauty contest and offered a nice ranking, since she qualified in the top 10, in ninth place. Last May, Amandine Petit qualified in the top 21. In 2019, Maëva Coucke wore the colors of France and was classified in seventh place in the competition. In 2018, Eva Colas had become the laughing stock of Internet users by failing to reach the top 20.

Originally from Lille, former Miss France 2016, Iris Mittenaere had the opportunity to shine on the stage of Miss Universe. Indeed, she imposed herself as Miss Universe on January 30, 2017. Note that this is only the second time that a Miss France has risen to the rank of Miss Universe. The last time was in 1953! The young woman was then 25 years old and a student of dental surgery at the time of the election. Sylvie Tellier, director of the Miss France Organization, explained to RTL’s microphone that Iris Mittenaere is “a very intelligent, cultured and very curious woman. It seems to me that that made the difference.”
