MISS FRANCE 2023. Agathe Cauet is one of the favorites of the Miss France 2023 competition, which will be broadcast on TF1 on Saturday evening. Elected Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais this fall, she is coming back from a very long fight…

She is one of the most popular candidates, or at least the most publicized. Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais could well be elected Miss France 2023, this Saturday, December 17, during the big beauty contest which will be broadcast again on TF1. With those of Miss Guyana, Miss Réunion and Miss Midi-Pyrénées, the name of Agathe Cauet returns in any case regularly in the list of candidates who could recover the coveted crown. A coronation that would sound like revenge for the one whose body has not always been a gift.

The 23-year-old young woman suffered a few years ago from a 9-kilo tumor, half-cancerous, half-benign, which had to be operated on when she was in her final year. The doctors had prepared her for the worst, with the possibility of chemotherapy, but in the end the young woman got away with lighter treatment and surgery. The one who hopes today to become Miss France 2023 has kept a scar of 7 cm at the level of the belly. If this one has long complexed her, she has managed to overcome her lack of self-confidence since.

The only Miss without a photo in a bikini

“I had a tumor at the age of 17, a borderline of 9 kilos. Today I have one less ovary”, is content to tell very factually Miss Nord Pas de Calais at TVMag, who nevertheless specifies having made a tattoo on her right groin, “in the shape of a flower arch”, for this lost part of herself. “I can still have children insofar as I have one ovary that works normally”, also reassures the young woman who has also kept oocytes “as a precaution”.

If this tumor is an old story and if the complexes dissipate, Agathe Cauet is the only regional miss not to have worn the traditional bikini during the photo shoot of the Misses in swimsuits. Instead: a pale pink one-piece swimsuit keeping her belly covered, all in elegance. During the various “tables” of the competition on Saturday evening, she could also decide by her outfits, undoubtedly less naked than her comrades.

A welcome change in the rules of Miss France

Agathe Cauet benefits from an inflection introduced this year in the selection criteria for Miss France. Based on the rules of Miss Universe, Alexia Laroche-Joubert, the new president of the Miss France society, notably opened the competition to women with a tattoo, as long as it does not display “criminally reprehensible representation”. “We can also hide them on stage for those who wish,” she told TV Magazine a few weeks ago. What Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais obviously decided to do.

Another radical change: the competition is open to married women and even mothers. It is also accessible to any female candidate “in the civil status”, which makes it possible to include transgender people. The actress Andréa Furet will also have been the first transgender woman to participate in the competition, arriving second Dauphine of the Miss Paris election this year.

Miss France also allows candidates over the age of 18 and measuring at least 1.70 meters to participate. A constrained size for purely practical reasons according to Alexia Laroche-Joubert, the designer dresses that the Misses must wear during the ceremony cannot go below this level. But this choice of size could be worth trouble for the institution, despite the relaxations, the association Dare feminism having dragged the organization of the competition before the industrial tribunal for discrimination, with a judgment expected on January 6.

“It is the fight against cancer that is particularly close to my heart”

Today, Agathe Cauet is a nurse and graduated two years ago from the CHR in Lille. A “beautiful profession”, even a vocation to hear it, born of his painful experience and his hospitalization. “I discovered a profession where we took care of people and that made me want to take care of others,” she said again to TV Mag, ensuring that she wanted to “feel useful”. “By my profession and my experience, it is the fight against cancer that is particularly close to my heart”, also confides the young Miss who started working in 2020, in the midst of the Covid period. An episode “trainer” but “complicated to live” she told Lille Actu. She is also passionate about drawing.

Agathe Cauet is not related to host Sébastien Cauet, whom she knows “no more than you” she needed to clarify.
