It was at lunchtime on Wednesday that a female teacher was stabbed in the Runby School parking lot in Upplands Väsby in Stockholm. The woman tells SVT that she saw an unknown adult with a knife following a student, whereupon she shouted at the student to run away.
The perpetrator then turned on the teacher and stabbed her in the stomach before taking her bag and walking away. The teacher was taken by ambulance helicopter to hospital with serious injuries.
The school then housed the students at the school during the police search operation in the area. The perpetrator is still at large.
“I almost panicked”
Twelve-year-old Mira is in sixth grade at Runby School. She was one of all the students who were housed during the police operation. She also has two younger siblings who attend the same school.
– I was very worried when I couldn’t get hold of my younger siblings, says Mira.
Mira was later told by a teacher that all the students at the school were unharmed, including her siblings. But Mira had to wait for three and a half hours inside the school during the police operation before she was allowed to come out and meet her parents who were waiting outside the school.
This is how students and staff are supported
The day after the attack on the teacher, the principal of the school tells SVT that there are students and staff who are very sad and shocked. But that there are also those who are more united and want to look ahead.
– We are now working with support for the students and staff, with the presence of psychosocial support staff. But as soon as possible we want to be able to return to normal, says Johnny Wahlund, principal at Runbyskolan to SVT.
