Minus 550 million for Region Jämtland Härjedalen

There are several different reasons why the forecast for the deficit is growing from SEK -360 million to -550 million for 2023.

– Pension costs are one of them, says Bengt Bergqvist (S), chairman of the regional board. It is significantly higher than estimated due to inflation.

The dollar exchange rate, wage situation and rental staff also contribute to the deficit.

– More of our patients do not wait for care within the region either, but invoke the care guarantee and turn to other care providers for care, and then it becomes more expensive for us, says Bergqvist.

At the same time, Region Jämtland Härjedalen is not unique in any way. All regions except Gotland are in deficit in 2023.

– In my world, the state needs to step in and support, says Bengt Bergqvist (S).
