Melting snow and heavy rain in the forecast could create minor flooding between Friday and Jan. 2, area watershed watchers say.

Thirty-five to 50 millimeters of rain is possible in the next five days, with most falling Sunday and Tuesday, St. Clair Region conservation authority officials said in a release.

With temperatures generally remaining above freezing during the day and overnight, snowpack depths of about 10 centimeters are expected to degrade, contributing to run-off into drains and watercourses, officials said.

Be wary of ponding in low-lying areas and on roads if drains are covered or blocked, officials said, warning minor flooding in natural floodplain areas is possible.

People should avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, fast-moving water, officials said, adding children and pets should be kept away from the water.
