Ministry wants report from Olympic Committee EPN Sports

The Ministry of Education and Culture wants the Olympic Committee to report on how the inappropriate behavior has been addressed. The Ministry does not comment on Mika Lehtimäki’s case.

The Ministry of Education and Culture intends to request an explanation from the Olympic Committee on how inappropriate behavior has been addressed in the Committee and how it will be addressed in the future. The request for clarification also concerns the principles of good and transparent governance.

Director General of the Department of Youth and Sports Policy of the Ministry of Education Esko Ranto says the survey is due by April 13th.

– We have already arranged a meeting with the Olympic Committee in the week after Easter, when we will discuss this matter with them, Ranto says.

Ranto says that the assignment of the request for clarification has come from him as the department head himself.

– I have discussed this with the Chief Secretary. This is purely official training. Our job is to monitor the recipients of government subsidies. This is related to the normal activities of civil servants. Satu Heikkinen I decide to send this request for clarification shortly after the presentation, Ranto says.

The Ministry does not take a position Mika Lehtimäki case. On Monday, Lehtimäki resigned as head of the Olympic Committee’s top sports unit. Sport reported on the warning Lehtimäki received last week.

Lehtimäki received a warning about inappropriate behavior against women. On Monday, Mika Lehtimäki said the reason for the warning was the nocturnal messages, which he described as “too friendly”.

The Board of the Finnish Olympic Committee will hold an extraordinary meeting today. A press conference will be held tomorrow at 11 am will broadcast the event live.
