According to the release, the national gas network is currently operating smoothly thanks to other gas suppliers and its customers will not be left without gas.
The company says its gas storage is currently about 80 percent full. It commends the government’s previously implemented strategy to diversify the network of gas suppliers.
Polish Minister for the Environment and Climate Anna Moskwa did not comment directly, but wrote on Twitter last night that Poland had been “virtually independent” of Russian gas supplies for years.
– There will be no shortage of gas in Polish homes, Moskwa said.
The announcement of the cessation of gas supplies came after Poland added 15 Russian oligarchs and 35 companies, including Gazprom, to its sanctions list on Tuesday.
The country has repeatedly refused to pay for gas supplies in rubles, despite Russia’s demand.
The situation is more difficult for Bulgaria than for Poland
Late Tuesday night, news came out that Gazprom will also suspend gas supplies to Bulgaria from Wednesday morning.
– Bulgaria has fulfilled its obligations and paid its payments on time in accordance with the agreement in force, in strict compliance with its rules, Alexander Nikolov commented in the press release.
Bulgaria is heavily dependent on Russian gas. According to the Minister, however, the use of gas does not need to be regulated, at least for the time being. According to the press release, the ministry, together with local energy companies, has prepared alternative arrangements for obtaining natural gas and coping with the situation.
