Alejandro Mayorkas, the US Secretary of Homeland Security, is now defending the female Secret Service agents who threw themselves into the firing line during the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Criticism of the Secret Service has been pouring in since the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. During the televised speech in which a younger man opened fire, female Secret Service agents were seen rushing up to the former president to shield him with their bodies.

Since then, the political right in the United States has criticized the Secret Service for hiring women, which they claim is the reason why the former president almost died. They believe that women are not suitable for such tasks.

“These allegations are baseless and insulting,” writes Alejandro Mayorkas, the US Secretary of Homeland Security, in a statement. He praises women in law enforcement across the country for being “highly qualified and educated”.

“They are brave and selfless patriots who deserve our gratitude and respect,” he continues.

The criticism is mainly about an employment method that promotes diversity, fairness and inclusion. Something that the Republicans have criticized for discriminating against white people, especially white men.
