The death toll from a coal mine explosion in Iran’s South Khorasan province has risen to 52, and a three-day mourning period has been declared in the province.

The death toll from the coal mine explosion in Tebes, in Iran’s South Khorasan province, has risen to 52, following the explosion that occurred as a result of methane gas being trapped in the B and C blocks of the mine.

AN ENTIRE BLOCK LOST THEIR LIVES

According to the news on state television, during the rescue efforts for 22 workers trapped in Block C, all the workers lost their lives due to the increase in the density of methane gas.

3 DAYS OF MOURNING DECLARED

In a statement issued by the South Khorasan Governorship following the disaster, condolences were expressed to the families of those who lost their lives in the coal mine explosion. The statement announced that a three-day mourning period was declared in the province.

“THOSE WHO ARE NEGLIGENT WILL BE IDENTIFIED”

On the other hand, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, made a statement on his social media account regarding the incident in the coal mine, saying, “This accident has deeply affected all of us. It is saddening that such accidents are repeated. As the Parliament, it is our priority to identify those responsible and those who are negligent.”
