Millions of Covid 19 vaccines will go to waste in Germany

More than 10 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines will expire in Germany by the end of June. It was stated that for the years 2021-2023, Germany ordered 677 million vaccine doses, of which more than 375 million were BioNTech/Pfizer vaccines.

77 MILLION DOSES WAITING IN STORAGE

In a statement to the Welt am Sonntag newspaper, the German Ministry of Health also stated that as of April 4, 2022, 77 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines are in the warehouse of the federal government.

MINISTER OF HEALTH IS TARGET OF CRITICAL ARROWS

Tino Sorge, the health policy spokesperson of the CDU Parliamentary Group, criticized the Minister of Health, Karl Lautebach, claiming that Lauterbach had no limits in purchasing the vaccine, regardless of the actual need and cost.

Sorge noted that Lauterbach should be held accountable for the cost incurred by unnecessary orders due to the troubled budget situation.

In the vaccination campaign that started on 27 December 2020 in Germany, 63.7 million people received the first dose, 63.3 million people received the second dose and 49 million people received the third dose.

During the period when the campaign gained momentum, the number of people who were vaccinated exceeded 1 million on some days, but recently the number of people who got vaccinated dropped to tens of thousands a day.
