The government has earmarked SEK 120 million in aid to fight the famine in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan. The support goes through the UN Food Program (WFP) and must be distributed evenly, the government writes in a press release.

“We look with great concern at the warnings of famine in several parts of the world, not least in Gaza and Sudan. WFP is a central actor in the work to save lives in this situation. Sweden must be involved and contribute to breaking the negative trend and preventing famine from breaking out,” says Minister for Development Aid Johan Forssell.

The money is taken from the already announced core support to WFP of SEK 930 million in 2024. The decision to allocate money to the three selected locations was made in connection with WFP head Cindy McCain’s visit to Stockholm earlier this week.
