  • Milk truck overturned in ditch – leaking “large quantities”

    A truck has driven off the road outside Falköping.

    The truck loaded with milk has overturned in a ditch near Dala. The accident happened shortly after 12:00.

    The emergency services are on site.

    – It leaks large amounts of milk and some other shiny liquid, says Sofia Blad, the police’s spokesperson.

    No one was injured in the accident.

  • New forecast: More people are expected to leave Sweden

    More and more people with deportation orders are now expected to leave Sweden according to a new forecast from the Swedish Migration Agency.

    The assessment is that around 7,800 people whose application for a residence permit has been rejected will return on their own during 2024 – 900 more than previously forecast. At the same time, the forecast for the coming year is increased by 300 people to around 6,900.

    “We have been tasked by the government to increase returns and are now working intensively on this, including by developing the operations at our return centers and expanding the capacity in the depot,” says Migration Agency Director General Maria Mindhammar in a press release.

  • Six to hospital after boat fire in Norway

    Six people have been taken to hospital by helicopter since a fire broke out in a small electric boat south of the Norwegian island of Senja.

    Four people have been taken by rescue helicopter to hospital in Tromsø, and two have been transported by ambulance helicopter to hospital in Harstad, the rescue service at X.

    The emergency services suspect that it is a battery fire.

  • Truck overturned – driver trapped

    A truck with a trailer has driven off the road between Björna and Örnsköldsvik and overturned into the ditch.

    According to the emergency services, which were alerted to the accident shortly after 11:30 a.m., the truck is on its roof and leaking diesel.

    One person was still in the cab when the emergency services arrived.

    – The cabin was so compressed that it could not be opened, says Sandra Nordlund, alarm and line operator.

    The person’s injury status is unknown.

    Landsväg 352 is completely closed in both directions. The rescue work is expected to be completed by 1 p.m.

  • Billion dollar subsidy to SSAB for green steel

    The European Commission has given the green light for Swedish state aid to the steel company SSAB.

    The support is around SEK 1.5 billion and will contribute to the state-owned company’s investment in green steel.

    The commission writes that SSAB’s investment is in line with the EU’s climate goal of climate neutrality by 2050, but that the support is not so large that it risks disrupting competition.

  • Person hit by truck

    A person has been hit by a truck on Stortorget in Östersund.

    The alarm came in just before half past twelve on Monday morning.

    – We are investigating what happened right now, says Elisabeth Gaas, police spokesperson.

    There is currently no information on the state of damage of the person hit.

    The police’s work at the scene has now been completed.

  • Forensic psychiatric examination after the murder of Maja

    The 18-year-old who is suspected of murdering his schoolmate Maja in Skene in Marks municipality earlier in March has undergone a forensic psychiatric examination.

    According to the district court, the young man is deemed to have committed the murder under the influence of a serious mental disorder. He is also judged to suffer from the disorder at the time of the examination itself.

    Maja was found dead in a stream with extensive injuries all over her body. A few days earlier, the man had told his friends that he planned to stab her.

    The verdict will be announced on October 28.

  • WHO: 1,000 women and children are evacuated from Gaza

    Up to 1,000 sick women and children will shortly be evacuated from Gaza to Europe by the WHO.

    This is stated by the organization’s Europe manager Hans Kluge in an interview with AFP.

    Last week, UN investigators reported that Israel had deliberately targeted medical facilities in Gaza, killing and torturing medical staff.

    So far, 600 people in need of emergency care have been evacuated from Gaza to seven European countries.

    On Monday morning, the emergency services received an alarm that a cow was stuck between two trees on the island of Tjörn on the west coast.

    – We are now on site and working. I have no information about the damage situation, says Micael Olsson at the rescue service.

    The cat has now come loose from the tree.

  • Heavy fire in central London

    There is a heavy fire in an apartment building in north-west London.

    On X, the London Fire Brigade writes that around 70 firefighters are currently working to extinguish the fire.

    According to the fire department, there is a fire in an apartment on the tenth floor of the building, which has a total of 15 floors.

  • Suspicious bag on train

    A commuter train has been evacuated at Spånga station in northern Stockholm after an alarm about an unknown bag on board.

    – No one on the train owns the bag if you say so. We will look into whether it could be a suspected dangerous object, says Per Fahlström, press spokesperson at the police.

    Shortly afterwards, the police were able to establish that the bag was harmless and commuter train traffic resumed.

    The fuel chains lower the price of diesel and petrol. Prices are thus approaching SEK 17 per liter again since the oil price on the world market fell last week.

    Diesel is reduced by 15 öre per liter and now costs SEK 17.09. Petrol is reduced by 10 öre to SEK 17.24 a litre, according to the recommended prices at manned stations.

    At the beginning of October, both diesel and petrol cost less than SEK 17. In between, the price was up around 17.60 around 14 October.

  • Airplane collided with fox at Bromma airport

    During Monday morning, a plane hit a fox on the runway at Bromma Airport.

    The emergency services are on site together with several ambulances.

    – The aircraft has taken off and is now circling overhead. We do not know more about the situation at the moment but we have many units in place. I can’t go into how many, says Fredrik Hilmersson, line operator at Stockholm’s fire brigade.

    According to the rescue service, the aircraft has now landed at Arlanda for inspection and the airport is taking over the matter.

    – We can confirm that a small passenger plane landed at Arlanda at 8.30 and that it went well, says Ellen Laurin, deputy press manager at Swedavia.

  • A car has overturned in central Stockholm

    Just after half past seven, the police were called to Vanadisplan in central Stockholm where a car had overturned.

    – It is a driver who drove into a parked car and then overturned, it is on the roof and the driver has now been taken away by ambulance, says police spokesperson Per Fahlström.

    – He should not be life-threateningly injured, says Fahlström.

    The police have drawn up a report about carelessness in traffic.

  • Fethullah Gülen is dead

    The Turkish preacher Fethullah Gülen is dead, reports the Reuters news agency. He was 83 years old.

    Gülen is the founder of the Gülen movement, which has been classified as a terrorist by Turkey.

    He was accused of being behind an attempted coup in Turkey in 2016 and of trying to infiltrate the state.

    The accusations came, among other things, from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with whom he was formerly an ally.

    Fethullah Gülen himself has denied any involvement in the coup attempt. Since 1999, he has lived in self-imposed exile in the United States.
