Two helicopters from the Japanese navy have crashed in the sea about 600 kilometers south of the capital Tokyo during a nighttime exercise. One person has been found dead and seven are missing.
The two helicopters, Sikorsky SH-60K modified in Japan, are suspected to have collided. According to Defense Minister Minoru Kihara, the navy lost contact with the two, often called Seahawks, when they were near the island of Torishima.
During the search, wreckage and a deceased crew member have been picked up from the sea.
