The Japanese Ministry of Defense reported that a military helicopter belonging to the Ground Self-Defense Forces (GSDF) disappeared from radar at around 16.30 local time, 18 kilometers southwest of Miyakojima Island in Okinawa province.

In the statement, it was stated that there were 2 pilots, 2 technicians and 6 personnel in the UH-60JA type multi-purpose helicopter belonging to the Takayubaru military base.
