Military expert: the west is not helping Ukraine enough to achieve victories

Military expert the west is not helping Ukraine enough to

According to the experts who visited ‘s A-Talk, supporting Ukraine in achieving its war goals would require more comprehensive additional training of its army instead of individual weapons.

Ukraine faces another winter in the war against Russia. War the next expert Emil Kastehelmen according to it is the political choice of the West not to help Ukraine achieve its stated goal.

– At the moment, the West is not helping Ukraine to the extent that the immediate restoration of the 1991 borders is on the horizon, Kastehelmi said in ‘s A-Talk.

According to Kastehelmi, in addition to military aid, the West has other possible choices that could contribute to Ukraine’s victory. Such choices could be, for example, training operations in Ukraine or some kind of operation carried out by the coalition, in which the forces of Western countries take a role within the borders of Ukraine or on the border with Belarus.

Kastehelmi admits that these options have their risks.

– These could lead to a significantly more dangerous outcome. But in my view, there is no easy or harmless outcome if one wants to help Ukraine achieve its stated goal of restoring the 1991 borders

Head teacher of the Department of Military Art at the National Defense University Jarmo Mattila does not see Western forces fighting in Ukraine in the future.

– The West has provided training aid, equipment aid and intelligence support, but Ukraine has had to fight these battles itself. I see that from now on it will have to fight those battles itself. The West will not bring its own troops to Ukraine.

According to Mattila, taking troops to Ukraine would directly mean that the country or alliance in question would commit to the fight.

Mattila believes that the West understands that aid to Ukraine must continue, but it should be more than individual weapons and ammunition. Long-term help is essential.

– Now we have to start thinking more broadly about the development of the Ukrainian army, both qualitatively and quantitatively, training and fighting style. All of these have to be looked much further into the future than just at this moment.
