From record heat in the south to minus 36.2 in the north.
The first days of the year offer varied weather, to say the least, and the first days of 2023 look set to continue to surprise.
– The mild wet weather will turn into heavy snowfall, warns Ida Dahlström, meteorologist on duty at SMHI.
Götaland and Svealand look to have the most variable weather over the next two days.
Right now, mild air is over Götaland and Svealand, which brings precipitation in the form of snow and during Tuesday passing rain in most of Svealand.
The snowfall will continue upwards to the southern Norrland coast and the really cold weather in the north looks set to persist.
– It is currently minus 36.2 in Naimaka in Kiruna municipality, so it is very cold. In Dalarna, it is also somewhat surprising minus 31 right now, says Ida Dahlström.
Mild in the south
New Year’s Day in Skåne had the highest recorded temperature in 150 years with a whopping 12 degrees in Lund and 11 degrees in Malmö.
– It will continue to be mild there with around 8 degrees plus on Tuesday, says Ida Dahlström.
But it is far from an early spring feeling.
– No, the darkness and the rain that is falling make it far from a spring feeling, says Ida Dahlström.
More rain will move in over Götaland, which will continue to be mild and wet, but later in the day cold air will be brought down and it will clear up in most of Götaland and the temperature will start to drop.
– It can be quite slippery because it has rained so much, warns Ida Dahlström.
Heavy snowfall
At the coast it is still plus degrees or some minus degrees and even there there is a risk of slipping.
But it looks like Tuesday is the calm before the storm.
– Wednesday, on the other hand, is very interesting because then a fairly extensive low-pressure system will arrive with wind and heavy snowfall in northern Götaland and southern Svealand, says Ida Dahlström.
At the moment, SMHI will not issue any warnings, but urges caution if you go out on the roads.
