First great Classic of the year this Saturday March 18 with the Primavera, Milan San Remo.
The Classics season kicks off this Saturday March 18 with Italian racing legend, Milan San Remo. Positioned just after Paris Nice and Tirreno Adriatico and before the Flanders classics, the Primavera is always eagerly awaited by cycling enthusiasts. This year, the line-up once again promises to be substantial and enticing. Tadej Pogacar, Julian Alaphilippe, Wout van Aert, Mathieu van der Poel, Mads Pedersen, Biniam Girmay and sprinter Jasper Philipsen are considered to be the big favorites in the race. Tom Pidcock is on the other hand forfeited, victim of a concussion after his fall on the Tirreno.
For Mathieu van der Poel, it’s also time for answers with a very complicated start to the season on the road (he favored the Cross World Championships), the Dutchman will know more about his condition after Saturday’s race. “It’s just very difficult to make choices, but nothing is lost yet. If it goes well at Milan-San Remo next week, everyone will say it was the right approach. It’s always how it goes. Last year it was of course because of the back, but if I don’t do cross country, I have a good preparation. This year, I didn’t want to miss the World Championships in Hoogerheide for nothing in the world, but if I had to draw the perfect winter, it would be without cyclo-cross”.
