A group of nine riders has led the way since the start of the race but the peloton manages the gap. Follow with us, live and commented, the first great Classic of the year this Saturday March 18 with the Primavera, between Milan and San Remo.
Live
13:50 – Alaphilippe picks up
After a well-managed start to the descent, Julian Alaphilippe caught up with the back of the peloton. The French will resume his place and must forget the episode of his fall.
13:44 – Halfway
We are halfway through the Primavera. Nine men are still leading the way but the gap with the peloton has narrowed considerably over the last kilometres. There is only 1’41” between the two groups 145 kilometers from the finish. The intensity level is only going to increase from here to San Remo.
13:42 – Alaphilippe victim of a mechanical problem
In an ascending part, Julian Alaphilippe crashes into a runner in front of him after another has touched the safety rail. The Frenchman tries to start again but his derailleur is jammed. It is quickly repaired and can start again. He will have to make the effort in the descent of the Turchini to regain his place in the peloton.
13:34 – Mohoric is not (necessarily) aiming for the double
Opportunistic last year, Matej Mohoric took advantage of the mess in the Poggio to spin downhill. Taking all the risks, stretching the lines, the Slovenian had unclamped in particular Pogacar and van Aert to go and win alone at the end of via Roma in San Remo. Holder of the title, the indefatigable rider from Bahrain Victorious kept a low profile before the start and hinted that he would use this race as a springboard to further his Flandrian ambitions. “I wouldn’t risk everything in the descent of Poggio like last year because I want to do well on other classics. Today is my first objective of the season, then will come the Tour of Flanders and Paris- Roubaix”said Mohoric.
13:28 – The favorites of Milan-San Remo
For this 114th edition, many riders can claim to win the first Classic of the year. The big favorites in the race are: Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates), Wout Van Aert (Jumbo Visma), Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal-Quick Step), Matthieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious) and Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo).
13:25 – Under three minutes
After leaving the gap past three minutes, the peloton accelerated very slightly to bring it back below this threshold. The nine leading men will have no latitude.
13:13 – The Turchino in front
After a flat first half like a windless sea, the landscape changes on Milan San Remo. The nine leading men are on the first ramps of the Passo del Turchino, the first asperities of a course which will get carried away in its final part with the sequence of Capi: Mele, Cervo, Berta before crossing the Cipressa then the Poggio where the favorites should explain themselves on the heights of San Remo.
13:09 – A point on the race
The start was given a little earlier in the morning. The riders involved in this 114th edition of Milan-San Remo covered nearly 130 kilometers out of the 294 planned. Nine riders make up the breakaway of the day, which took shape on leaving the Lombard capital: Alexandr Riabushenko (Astana Qazaqstan), Mirco Maestri, Samuele Rivi (EOLO-Kometa), Samuele Zoccarato, Alessandro Tonelli (Green Project-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè), Negasi Haylu Abreha (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), Alexandre Balmer, Jan Maas (Jayco AlUla) and Alois Charrin (Tudor Pro Cycling Team). The peloton is clocked in at 3’06”. This is also the biggest gap for breakaways.

The Passo del Turchino returns this year after two years of absence. Another change, the departure traditionally given at the Sforza Castle will be at the mythical Maspes-Vigorelli, the velodrome in Milan. For the rest, it’s a classic course that awaits participants with the traditional Cipressa / Poggio sequence before the finish.
Milan-San Remo 2023 will be worth watching live and exclusive on Eurosport 2, the Eurosport application and Eurosport.fr. Meet from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on all Eurosport platforms to follow the monument in entirety.
