MILAN – SAN REMO 2022. The first great classic of the year takes place this Saturday March 20 with, as often, a very fine line-up.

The classics kick off this Saturday 20 March with the first big race, Milan San Remo. A very strong plateau will be at the start of the race despite the absence of Julian Alaphilippe, who has withdrawn due to bronchitis as he indicated on social networks this Wednesday, March 16. The “big favourite” is undoubtedly the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar. Winner of Tirreno – Adriatico a few days ago, the double winner of the Tour hopes to raise his arms on Via Roma. Among the other names to check, Wout van Aert or the winner of Paris – Nice Primoz Roglic will also be contenders for victory.

Among the outsiders, Sonny Colbrelli, Caleb Ewan, Jasper Philipsen, Matej Mohoric, Damiano Caruso, Alessandro Covi, Alexander Kristoff (winner in 2014), Giacomo Nizzolo, Peter Sagan, Tom Pidcock or even the 2021 winner Jasper Stuyven will also be ones to watch.

If all goes well and the coronavirus pandemic does not play tricks on the organization of the classic, the race should take place Saturday, March 20, 2022. The peloton will start from Milan (Lombardy) at 10 a.m. while the arrival is judged around 4:40 p.m.

The Passo del Turchino returns this year after two years of absence. Another change, the departure traditionally given at the Sforza Castle will be at the mythical Maspes-Vigorelli, the velodrome in Milan. For the rest, it’s a classic course that awaits participants with the traditional Cipressa / Poggio sequence before the finish.

Milan-San Remo 2022 will be worth watching live and exclusive on Eurosport 2, the Eurosport application and Eurosport.fr. Meet from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on all Eurosport platforms to follow the monument in entirety.

Jasper Stuyven sprinted ahead of surprising Caleb Ewan and favorite Wout Van Aert. First French rider, Anthony Turgis took 10th place while Julian Alaphilippe had to settle for 16th position in the final standings:

    1. Jasper Stuyven
