For Mikko Rantanen, hockey has not always been the absolute number one, parents say. Rantanen finally had to win the championship because the sisters had already done so earlier this year.

Won the NHL championship with the Colorado Avalanche Mikko Rantanen enjoyed the company of loved ones at the Tampa Bay Lightning home arena on Monday. Colorado defeated Tampa 4-2 in the final series.
The spouse, parents, sisters and grandparents shared the Stanley Cup.
Rantanen’s parents Hannu and Hannamaia say Mikko has had the dream of winning the Stanley Cup since he was a little boy, even though hockey as a child was not always the absolute number one.
– Mikko has had good coaches since junior times. He has been involved in athletics, floorball and football. Greetings can be sent to all those coaches. They’ve done those things with Mikko. A big thank you also goes to them, Hannu Rantanen says.
Succeeding as a hockey player requires a lot of work and “lottery balls in place.” According to his parents, Mikko hasn’t shy away from toil and the work in front of the whole team is emphasized in the trough, and not just his own work.
Parents say they have tried to enable their children to play sports purposefully. Mikko’s sisters Laura and Noora have been successful in floorball. In the past season, they won the Finnish championship in the ranks of the Turku Ball Club.
In a way, the pressure to succeed began to build up on Mikko’s shoulders.
– Someone mentioned that “now you have to win too”. It was nice that the sisters were not the only ones, Mikko said after the championship was decided.

Rantanen’s family traveled early in the morning from Denver, Colorado, nearly 3,000 miles to Tampa, Florida. The parents in the trough still couldn’t tell how the championship party was going to go. They believe that the evening may go “pretty late and go.”
– At least not to go to Denver today, but to stay here. Let’s rest at Nousiainen, Hannamaija Rantanen said with a laugh.
