Mikko Rantanen accounted for all of Colorado’s goals as the reigning Stanley Cup champions defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2.

Star striker Mikko Rantanen backpacked the injury-plagued Colorado Avalanche in an away game against the St. Louis Blues. Rantanen tapped in midway through the second period to give his team a 1–0 lead.
At the end of regular time, St. Louis was level and over, but then Rantanen stepped into the picture again. Playing without a goalie, Colorado’s pressure was rewarded and Rantanen rammed the puck in just seven seconds before the final buzzer.
Rantanen became a hero in overtime by scoring Cale Makarin into the shot puck. The hat trick was Rantanen’s second of the season and fifth of his career. He had his first three-goal night of the season a little over a month ago in an NHL match played in Tampere against the Columbus Blues Jackets.
The situation before Rantanen’s 2-2 equalizer was examined on video, because it was necessary to make sure that Colorado did not JT Compher guilty of handpassing his teammate Devon Toews after the shot.
