The contract between Niemelä and Kärppi has been terminated by mutual consent. Niemelä played in the Brynäs team until the end of last season.
Defender Mikko Niemelän the contract has been terminated by mutual agreement between the player and the club, Kärpät informs.
The 32-year-old Niemelä was brought up by Oulu Kärppie and he made his Liiga debut in the 2008-2009 season.
While playing in the Kärppien Liiga team, he has won three Finnish championships, as well as a silver medal and a bronze medal at the national championship. In addition, he was part of his team’s captaincy in the 2020-2022 seasons.
Last season, Niemelä played both in the Kärppien Liiga team and as a loan player in the Swedish club Brynäs IF, where he moved at the end of November.
Niemelä has played a long career in the Oulu team. As the defender of his place, he cemented his fly jersey in the 2015-2016 season.
