Finland’s most experienced golfer Mikko Korhonen, 44, ends his competitive career.
Mikko Korhonen announced his decision to quit on Tuesday The golf course on the podcast.
– I got more from my career than I ever dreamed or hoped for. I’m grateful that I was able to play this long and I was lucky enough to win two races, Korhonen said in the podcast.
Korhonen managed to play 255 races on the main European tour, the DP World Tour. In total, 44-year-old Korhonen played almost 400 professional competitions in his career.
Korhonen turned professional in 2004 and he played his first competition on the main tour already in 2007. At his best, Korhonen was ranked 84th in the world rankings. Only two Finnish players have been higher than this.
The last competition of Korhonen’s career was September’s Irish Open, where he failed to qualify.
In the future, Korhonen plans to at least be involved in the operations of The 59 Fund, a fund he founded that supports golfers who have turned professional.
