Mike Pence took a jab at his former predecessor –

US Republican presidential candidate Mike Pence strongly criticized Donald Trump at his first campaign event in Iowa.

Former Vice President of the United States Mike Pence said at his first campaign rally in Des Moines, Iowa, that no one who puts himself above the U.S. Constitution should ever serve as president.

Mike Pence was referring to the former Republican president to Donald Trumpwhose vice president Pence served from 2017 to 2021.

Pence is the first former vice president in modern US history to challenge a president under whom he served.

Pence, who signed up as Trump’s challenger, said at his campaign event that Trump had asked him to choose between Trump and the US Constitution after the losing 2020 presidential election.

– Now the voters are faced with the same choice, said Pence.

After the 2020 election, Pence refused to support Trump’s efforts to impeach the Democrat Joe Biden election victory. When pro-Trump rioters stormed Congress as it confirmed the election results on January 6, 2021, the crowd chanted death to Pence.

– I chose the Constitution and I will always do so, Pence said in his campaign opening.

Pence also said the Republican Party should stand for the United States Constitution.

Known as a conservative Christian, Pence also criticized Trump for rejecting conservative values. He criticized Trump for being too lenient on abortion.

– The sanctity of life has been the vocation of our party for half a century – long before Donald Trump was part of it.

Pence supports national abortion ban.
