In a long post, Ymer writes that he was informed yesterday that he is banned for 18 months after missing three unannounced doping controls over the course of a year.
According to Ymer, the International Tennis Federation, ITF, accused him of violating the anti-doping rule in January 2022.
“I appealed that charge at a hearing and was upheld by an independent jury in June 2022,” Ymer writes.
But according to him, the IFT has appealed the decision, of which the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, decided to suspend the tennis star for 18 months.
– The doping hunters have to keep track of where they are. Here, there seem to be three occasions where they haven’t caught him, says TV4 sport’s tennis commentator Petter Pettersson.
Considers that he did not break the rules
Ymer further writes that he understands that the rules exist to protect the integrity of the sport and that they are there for a reason, but that he is disappointed.
“I do not consider that I have broken the rules and my conscience is clear with God as my witness,” writes Ymer.
According to Petter Pettersson, the suspension is a hard blow to Mikael Ymer’s career.
– It’s a killing blow, his ranking will disappear and you really have to start from scratch. He has been deprived of the opportunity to do what he does best.
– It is possible to appeal a CAS verdict, but it is the last instance that exists in sports, so it undeniably looks very dark, says Petter Pettersson.
