Everyone recognizes the moment when Börje Salming completely silences Mikael Renberg and Tomas Sandström.
Now one of the leads reveals the truth behind the classic commercial.

The Swedish hockey elite and dozens of legendary players gathered this weekend to pay tribute and honor Börje Salming in the most dignified way. Former great player Mikael Renberg was one of many on site to draw attention to Salming’s greatness.
Börje’s commercial
Renberg admits that he was not very close to Börje as a person, but as a hockey player, their paths have crossed several times. The most memorable time was when Renberg and Salming together with Tomas Sandström created Swedish television history with the most iconic commercial.

We are of course talking about Svenska Spel’s commercial for Oddset, where Renberg and Sandström stand in an elevator and compare scars and injuries from their hockey careers. Then Börje Salming suddenly steps into the elevator and silences both of them immediately.
– It is a great memory. A lot of people remember it, it’s special. So for me it is a merit to have been there together with Börje, Renberg tells SportExpressen.

Renberg reveals
Even though the commercial came out in the early 2000s, Renberg is still reminded of it over 20 years later. The iconic video made such a big impression on the Swedish people, see it below.
– There are many who remind me. And not least when Börje told them that he was ill, many people picked up on that advertisement, he tells the evening newspaper.

So many years after the commercial, Mikael Renberg now also reveals the truth about what happened during the creation of the unforgettable clip, see the video below. Because Börje Salming wasn’t even there during the entire recording, Renberg now admits.
– I remember that we recorded for a whole day. Me and Tomas were there the whole day, but Börje was only there for half the day because he would be with less than us, he reveals in the interview.
– He was just going to get into the lift.

Mikael Renberg today feels great pride in his participation in the commercial and that he got to make it together with Tomas Sandström and Börje Salming. Although he paled in comparison to Salming’s 200+ stitches from his hockey career.
