Mikael Renberg is one of Swedish hockey’s truly great players.
Now he himself gets to choose who is Sweden’s best hockey player ever.
And then he opts out of both Nicklas Lidström and Mats Sundin for another.
In the early 90s hit Mikael Renberg through as a great talent in Luleå. Which would lead to an early move to North America and the world’s best hockey league, the NHL.
Renberg’s career
Renberg made his debut for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1993-94 season and it would be the start of a fine NHL career with a whopping 661 games and 464 points. Together with the teammates Eric Lindros and John Leclair formed a terrifying chain that went by the name “Legion of Doom”.

Renberg also represented the Tampa Bay Lightning, Phoenix Coyotes and Toronto Maple Leafs during that time in North America before returning home to Sweden and Luleå again. Piteåsonen has also made 82 international appearances for Tre Kronor, where one moment in particular stands out as the best memory from his hockey career.
– The WC gold in 1998 and when we came home to Sergels Torg. It was absolutely fantastic. I would love to do that again, a fond memory, he says in an interview with Sportmagasinet in 2006.
Choose the best
It’s a very fine career that Mikael Renberg can look back on, even if he particularly longs to return to his time as a successful hockey player.
– I don’t look back that much; what has been has been. But my career has been going well. I don’t miss those years, but I look back on them with great joy. It was a fun time, he says in the interview.

The hockey legend also gets the opportunity to name Sweden’s best player of all time. Then he chooses to nob greats like Nicklas Lidström and Mats Sundin for another old national team colleague.
