On the ice, the Calgary Flames defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-3 last night and the team captain Mikael Backlund contributed an assist in the victory. The whole setting was also very special in every way for the Swede.

Because this was Backlund’s 949th game in the NHL for the Calgary Flames during his 16 seasons with the club. This means that he has played the second most NHL games ever in the history of the Flames, after the club icon Jarome Iginla who played the most.

It was framed in the best way even before relegation when the Calgary Flames surprised the team captain in the best way. In the NHL, it has become a tradition for family members to come into the locker room and read the starting line-up as a nice gesture for the players.

The Calgary Flames posted the beautiful video from last night on their social media and everyone is absolutely loving it and having a hard time holding back the tears.
“So very beautiful. Love this!”, writes a user on X.
“Good luck holding back tears at a clip like this if you are parents. I can’t handle it then,” writes another.
“So incredibly cute when she says his real name instead of dad,” writes a third.
