Swedish Mika Zibanejad accounted for a goal and an assist as the New York Rangers defeated San Jose 6-5 on Monday night. But despite both the goal and the win, Zibanejad was not satisfied.
– It was not the ultimate match, he said afterwards.
The New York Rangers, who have won 16 of their last 19 games, got it unnecessarily exciting against San Jose, who have lost 11 of their last 12 away games.
It was San Jose who took command in the first period and took the lead after four minutes. When the period ended, everything had happened and everything turned around and Rangers led 3-2 after two goals Artemi Panarin and one of Mika Zibanejad.

Fifteen minutes into the second period Rangers had pulled away to 6–3 but San Jose pressed on and managed to reduce first to 6–4 through Swedish Fabian Zetterlund assisted by Mikael Granlund and then to 6–5 through Alexander Barabanov with only 4.10 left in the match.
– It was not the ultimate match. “We could have done a better job when we were 6-3 and wouldn’t have let them back into the game,” said Mika Zibanejad.
However, he thought San Jose’s pickup “made it exciting at the end.”
– But now we take this win with us and move on.
With tonight’s win, the New York Rangers have won 3,000 games as long as the club has existed. It is the fifth team in the NHL to pass that total.
